Evenbalance: re PB Kicks for Losing Key Packets (A)ffff0001 and (B)ffff0001 (Jun 30, 2007)

We are aware of several players who are getting kicked for Losing Key Packets with an error code ffff0001 or ffff0002 after the v1.701 PB Client update released yesterday. There seems to be some misinformation being posted on various websites and forums in reference to the new PunkBuster services called PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB. These are NOT optional. If these are disabled or stopped or blocked by the user or anti-virus or Internet security software, updated PunkBuster servers will remove you from the game for Losing Key Packets. Users of some versions of McAfee Security Center are reporting that these PB components are getting automatically added to the "block" list. If this happens on your machine, you will need to remove them from the list in order to continue using PunkBuster. Players who have manually disabled or stopped PnkBstrA based on instructions from some other website may need to run our PBSVC program to uninstall and reinstall in order to continue playing on PB enabled servers.

PunkBuster Services (Jun 30, 2007)

>>>click<<<

Beginning with PunkBuster client version 1.500, Evenbalance has extended the PunkBuster Anti-Cheat system to operate without the requirement to run PunkBuster supported games with Administrator privileges when running under Windows 2000, XP, or Vista. In order to do this, EB has developed new Windows service components to work with the PunkBuster system. PunkBuster will automatically begin using the new service components on supported systems. To manually install/uninstall the components, users may use our PBSVC Setup Program. However, uninstalling the new service components will disable PunkBuster and may prevent playing on PunkBuster servers. PBSVC can be downloaded from >>>here<<< . Once the PnkBstrA service is running along with a new PB client version 1.500 and higher, running PB enabled games under Windows 2000, XP or Vista no longer requires Administrator privileges.

PunkBuster Support NOTICE for All Games (May 22, 2006)

A serious security (buffer overrun) flaw involving PunkBuster was recently discovered and reported. This flaw affects the optional WebTool component of PunkBuster servers on all platforms and for all supported games. This flaw does not affect game players (the PunkBuster Client) nor default installations of the PunkBuster Server, only PB Server installations where the server admin configured the use of the pb_sv_httpPort setting. An attacker with knowledge of the flaw can exploit it by crashing the game server at will. New PB Server Version v1.229 which addresses the flaw began going out for all supported games via our auto-update system within a few hours of the report. Any and all PB Server admins who use the WebTool are strongly encouraged to verify that they are running version v1.229 or higher of the PB Server on all of their servers that have PunkBuster enabled.

We would like to begin an open beta test of a new application for use in manually installing and/or updating PunkBuster software. "PBSetup" will allow users to install or update to the latest version of PunkBuster for one or more supported games. This program is designed to completely replace the outdated PBWEB command line utility as a more reliable, user-friendly graphical tool.

Features:
1. Ability to install/update PunkBuster software for multiple supported games on an OS platform
2. Ability to correct corrupted installations of the PunkBuster software
3. Self-updating executable; you may from time to time be notified of new versions of PBSetup itself. A download and update will happen automatically.

How to Install PBSetup:
1. Download a copy of PBSetup for your OS platform from the following links:

Windows
Linux
Mac

2. Place the file in an appropriate directory:
a. For Windows - Create a directory like "C:\Program Files\PBSetup" and move pbsetup.exe to this location.
b. For Linux - Create a directory in your home directory called "PBSetup" and move pbsetup.run to this location.
c. For Mac - Unarchive the file to your Desktop (this should happen automatically)

3. Run PBSetup:
a. For Windows - Create a desktop shortcut to pbsetup.exe from where you downloaded and then double click on the icon.
b. For Linux - Change to the PBSetup directory. Type "chmod +x pbsetup.run", then "./pbsetup.run".
c. For Mac - If the archive expanded correctly in your Desktop folder, you should have a "pbsetup.run" application link; double click this.

For Support:

Please communicate directly with our staff using our web trouble-ticket system for any issues related to PBSetup:

Submit Support Ticket

In addition, be aware that PBSetup attempts to locate the installation directory of any game automatically. It does this using a series of "game hints". The "game hints" can be registry entries, hardcoded directories, or system environment variables. Although PBSetup currently detects the game installation paths well, there is a chance that we\'ve missed some locations. If you find that PBSetup does not automatically find your game installation, please fill out a trouble ticket and let us know. Please include the game, your OS, and the complete path to your PB folder.

PBBans Announcements

Another AAO AC site join up (Sep 24, 2006)

AON is the latest AAO AC site to join the PBBans log forwarding venture and will now receive "live" streamed info from game servers that have requested log forwarding enabled in their request to stream post.

PBBans Hub Update (Sep 17, 2006)

PBBans Hub streaming is still on the rise and has now overtaken the standard streaming method as the preferred method of streaming.
Log forwarding is available to any AC site that wishes to take part in this venture and the PBBans Hub can forward logs to up to 32 other AC sites, so there is plenty of room for all.
Thus far only 2 other AC sites have taken up the "spirit of co-operation" challenge, ACI and CB (CheatersIdentified have effected a name change and are now known as CheatBusted )
PBBans have introduced the PBBans Logger (linux version only) that can set up log forwarding in minutes, you simply run the programme and contact foxdie with the server IP/Port of were you want the logs forwarded to, it's that easy
PBBans would just like to reiterate that log forwarding is available via the PBBans Hub for any pb supported game and invites any AC site admin to come and have a chat about it on irc.

CheatersIdentified join the AAO clean up. (Sep 14, 2006)

CheatersIdentified have joined the new "spirit of co-operation" between AC sites and will now receive streamed logs forwarded via the PBBans Hub.
This means that one server can now stream information to 4 AC sites simultaneously.
Admins who wish to take part in log forwarding must state in their streaming request post that they wish their logs forwarded and who to. (CI or ACI or both)
Log forwarding is available via the PBBans Hub for any PB supported game, all we need is community minded AC site admins to contact Foxdie for a chat on IRC at
Network: Quakenet

PBBans + ACI Joint Venture (Sep 07, 2006)

In a ground breaking move, PBBans and ACI have joined forces in the fight to keep AAO clean.
AntiCheat Inc, founded by Reaper-ACI- will now receive the streamed logs of any AAO admin that request's log forwarding, delivered on their doorstep courtesy of the PBBans Hub.
We invite each and every community minded AAO admin to be a part of this unique arrangement and help stamp out cheating in AAO.
The PBBans Hub utilise's the recently released PBUCON to initiate streaming and by doing this it free's up the standard method of streaming for admins to stream to the AC site of their choice.
So, for example if an admin is quite happily streaming to another AC site using the standard method of streaming, all that he has to do is upload 2 files via FTP, add one command to his pbsv.cfg, execute a PB restart via rcon and Hub streaming is ready to go.
Hub streaming can also be initiated by inputting 5 commands via rcon.
All details on how to set up streaming via the PBBans Hub can be found here PBBans Forum

Admins must state that they wish their logs to be forwarded to ACI in the initial forum post requesting streaming.
Co-operation between AC sites has been minimal to say the least , and, although we are essentially in competition with each other we could do a lot more for the gaming communities united, than we could ever hope to achieve on our own.
To butcher an old quote "This is a small step for PBBans and ACI, but a giant leap for gaming communities"
With that in mind PBBans would like to invite any other AC site who are interested in log forwarding, for any PB supported game, to get in touch and put the gaming communities back in the forefront were they belong.

PBBans Hub Update (Jul 02, 2006)

Testing is going very well, the user response has been great so far and the number of live hub bans is surpassing our nightly Rep bans. Also all Rep bans are sent to all Hub servers for live banning as soon as they are added to the MBI. Ban appeals that get approved also get removed immediately on hub servers so players can get back on their favourite servers asap.

Also another feature currently in development is a partial CVAR match. This means we will be able to log any CVAR that had a given word in it such as wall, esp, aim, etc. This will allow us to detect private hack CVARS.

Keep an eye out for more changes in the coming months as we are sure it will make PBBans a much more user friendly environment.

We would like to thank the beta users and look forward to new users who which to join the PBBans Hub era.

PBBans Hub (Multi-Streaming) (Jun 18, 2006)

As some may have heard we are currently developing a new way of streaming. This method will use the recently released pbucon . It will feature live banning, live player data and more.

Using the PBBans Hub will free up the current method of streaming therefore servers can stream to another rep if they please. Some leagues are requiring streaming to reps of their choice but once the PBBans Hub is operational it will no longer be an issue to stream to pbbans 100% of the time.

Once a public beta begins we will offer a config that you can upload to your servers PB folder and edit your pbsv.cfg file. Then restart PB and we will do the rest. Currently game servers contact our rep to stream. With the PBBans Hub this is reversed. Our Hub will contact your server to stream to us.

We will update this page with more info as the project progresses.

Ban Removals for GammaModels.pk3 (Apr 20, 2006)

After running a poll of PBBans Streaming Game Admins for their invaluable input, a complete review of the GammaModels.pk3 violation was made by the PBBans staff
The end result was that the 4 bans on the MBI have been removed, and the PBBans SOF2 MCI has been updated
To the players concerned we would like to extend our apologies for the delay in reviewing this violation and hopefully no ill feeling will be harboured towards PBBans for adopting the "better safe than sorry" approach.

Bans listed in the Master Bans Index (MBI) (Jun 27, 2005)

Since the creation of PBBans.com, we have amassed alot of bans for Soldier of Fortune 2. A few of the older bans, dating from the 2003 and early 2004 era, have been discovered to have bad links for the pb ss and demos supporting the bans. Many of these links have been repaired and approximately 75 others were deleted from the bans database. Considering that PBBans.com has a 100% all volunteer work force, we are limited to the amount of time that we can spend on various issues. We would like to ask that if you happen upon a questionable ban, please by all means contact me as soon as possible. I can be reached in IRC ( irc.quakenet #pbbans ), or on MSN ( [email protected] ) It has come to my attention that there is a untruthful rumor floating around the European gaming community surrounding this very issue. A recent ban appeal gave me the reasons for posting this announcement. The ban this person appealed was for a CVAR violation, which is an optional ban during the ban list generation process. We are currently in the midst of reviewing this appeal/ban. The banee also asked why he was never sent a response. After a ban is appealed, we post the final judgement in the forums below the ban itself. We will do the same after this appeal is complete. I personally challenge each of you reading this to point out bans that you feel are on our bans list in error. We are placing a huge effort on reorganizing every part of PBBans to include a new website, the new Master Player Index (MPI), and cleaning up the entire bans database. Without your help, this task will ultimately take years.

Ban Removals for cg_thirdperson (Jun 17, 2005)

In light of recent events surrounding a handful of bans on our SoF2 MBI, we have performed a complete review of the 16 bans for cg_thirdperson. The check for this CVAR had long since been removed and 15 of the 16 bans were lifted today. The one ban not lifted was due to the player having another violation. There is also speculation that we ban for sensitivity 0. While we monitor this CVAR, we do NOT ban for it. The same goes for sof2bot.exe which is the IRC reporter. This cannot be confused with the sofbot.exe bans and of those bans which the MD5 hash matches the cheat file.

The duties include ensuring the bans added to and currently on the MBI are valid and to assist in correcting any problems related to these bans. If you would like to apply, send me an e-mail.
