Not sure where it was said but there is a post in EA UK about it.

Also

@Demize99 @heromilkshake The answer is there, the public doesn't get access to the server files period. & isn't up for debate at this point.

That is a very disturbing thought. I can deal w/ alot of the things related to this games release. But w/ an already limited anti cheat service available. No demos to review really bothers me alot. No demo to review to nab glitchers after the fact? No demo to submit to GGC?

This takes what little recourse the individual server renter/admin thought he/she had, and threw it in the trash.

Dont like this news one bit mad.gif

Another potentially good game that looks awesome that won't see one dime of my money. They keep taking one more thing away that I've always had and used. Here's hoping COD7 from Treyarch isn't a huge debauchery.

Sometimes I feel glad that BF2 and BF2142 were the last EA/DICE games that I put my money on...

Buy EA/DICE game again?

K-Boom, not dissing you, but I hope all the rest of the EA/DICE BF-series fans actually put their money where their mouth is. It didn't happen with MW2, and a lot of COD-fans that said they wouldn't buy it, still did so, admitted to it later.

If you're going to speak, speak with the wallet, not an internet voice, first, and then speak later with the internet voice, and speak with the wallet at the same time.

If EA/DICE take a hit on sales, they'll listen.

Same would have happened with IW/Activision if all of those cheese-dicks that posted in the poll/crap=BS thread had not bucked up for the game and they'd lost money to crap-dev on it and not wanting to give PC-gamers what they wanted, maybe, but at least it would have been known, and looked at.

If BF-series fans buy this game, and don't care about anti-cheat, and GGC is still gonna stream this game regardless of it's ability to do more than stream PB-based bans into a ban-list.(Yes you can stream, no, it won't add to your anti-cheat abilities, the fine-print GGC did not include) Without the ability to trouble-shoot, and actually work the development ends of things, streaming is worthless to begin with. Who cares if you can stream? Streaming without dev is nothing, useless, and not gonna add to a damned thing, anywhere, you'll just get streamed information about the things pb itself detects and waste actual server band-width for no reason at all.

Can't define MD5 checks without dev, can't define what's a server file MD5 from a fictional one, for example. Most cheats get installed in the game directory, and if you can't check them vs server files, no such checks can legitimately be added. Streaming a game becomes a waste of bandwidth for any anti-cheat community unless they're just ban-happy and want numbers.

I do like GGC, really, but I can't agree with their stance on this new game. I would say the same for any anti-cheat site that wants to run an integral anti-cheat stance on a new game, including PBBans, if we were to choose to stream it, without the ability to do so properly.

What EA/Dice have done with BF-series games is effectively make themselves naked to cheaters, and cut themselves off from any help they could have gotten from others who were willing to help, and sadly, all for the sake of their stupid ranking system.

I hope they enjoy the new game, once it's hacked, and turns into the paranoia-fest that the previous games have.

You'll notice that players of games such as COD4 and any other engine don't have quite the same..... We have demo's, and the ability to work with a CONSOLE and other tools available to us because the ranking system, if there is one, is client-sided only, and not related to the game in any other way. Ranking was stupid to begin with.

My take on it, perhaps I was a bit blunt, and sorry if I offended anyone. Just my take on the issue. I did not mean to offend BF-series fans, at all. I am perhaps one to simply call what I see, and perhaps that's why I stuck with Q3-engine games.

Death to ranking, or death to PC-Gaming. You have no other choices. Let the ranking be for the console-nubs, they need all the help they can get. Us PC-guys can manage just fine without it. Create something for us that doesn't have the issue, and has more fun involved, with publically available server files, and a reason to contribute to the gaming community, once again.

RW

That's a good statement RW, I'd prefer no ranking system at all, we never used to have it but it seems to be the 'wanted' thing at the moment. I suppose it gives players the illusion that rank actually means they must be a good player because they're high ranked, I just prefer the older games, no ranking sytem just a leaderboard for that particular game.

RW

I may be wrong here but the cheating seems to have increased ten-fold since this ranking system was brought in, these cheaters are always looking for new ways to 'beat the system', while I agree that PB isn't perfect and never has been I'd prefer to play on streaming servers than non-streaming and I can say that with all honesty, as a former SGA here, who had a cheater caught on my own server when I was in work and had I not been streaming here I wouldn't have even known that he was cheating.

With regards to IW and MW2, I did speak with my wallet, I never bought the game and have no intention of, if Dice are taking the same route as IW then that's fine by me, my money stays in my pocket.

Yeah RW. Unfortunately most people go on the wave and hype of a new BF-series game and will buy it.

Knowing the history of problems, and "great support" by EA/DICE for BF2 and BF2142.

Instead of making the game/software better, they are cutting out the parts that they can't fix?

Not releasing the game server files won't stop cheating and people discovering bugs, exploits and security flaws. I'm quite sure the hack coders liked this news.

Same here mate, if the game is a step backwards (like MW2) then the developers won't see a penny of my cash. Was quite awkward at Christmas when I had to tell the wife to send back the copy of MW2 she bought me but I stand by my word. I said I would boycott it and I still am.

If Dice choose to shaft their consumer base like IW did, which is a shame as this was the next game for my squad after the epic fail of MW2, then so be it. They won't be seeing any of my money either, there is still life in COD4 yet and I will be quite happy to keep playing it until a decent game with all the features we are accustomed to is released.

This is one consumer who won't pay full price for crappy console ports or games that remove tried and trusted features that we have used for years.

+1

I no longer play COD4, just no fun for me anymore, but I would quite happily wait for the next game that has all the features we've come to 'expect' in a PC game.

I really hope the new MOH does not take the same route though as that looks awesome.

Without ranks, you wouldn't have to worry about stat-padding, won't have to worry about getting your account reset, won't have to worry about someone spoofing your account and jacking it up a 4-star. Really the only point to spoof then would to try to get players alias banned, then have them banned from servers run by uneducated/uninformed admins.

I wouldn't put a lot of money on DICE to do the right thing here. It only took them what, 2 years to put out patch 1.50. Which fixed a "few" bugs, and completely changed the game-play with prone-deviation. Still didn't fix squad bugs (kind of hard to use teamwork, when you can't make squads), still didn't fix hit detection (maybe improved a little, but not enough). These problems will probably never get fixed because I don't expect a patch 1.51.

Was really looking forward to BC2, but I'm worried that DICE is going to do everything in it's power, to screw up what could have been a great-game.

Welp, in my impatience, I just went with a Crysis Wars server for my "new" game. I can't wait around for these devs to keep screwing up PC gaming as we knew it. I Still run COD4 and WAW servers, but I am growing weary of those and getting sick of letdown after letdown from these game companies. I'm sure Medal of Honor will be a letdown in some way when it comes out in the fall, and Treyarch will screw up COD 7 in the future too. Maybe they will have Treyarch.net instead of IW.net. Screw em all.

Having a different FOV for different players is a balance issue. I've played lots of pc and I don't feel the fov is restricted.

There's the "balance" word again. Seems game devs are not building games we want but the ones they want and you will play on their terms. With the way PC gaming is going, you may as well buy an Xbox cause games now a days are just ports anyway.

Man if you walked into a retail store and they told you what you want and didn't listen to you, how long would they be in business.

Not long to be sure. But, how many people complained about MW2? Just about everybody, yet it has an unbelievable amount of people playing it, and sales were thru the roof for PC. These companies know that people will still buy them no matter what they impose into the game. I can't see EA or Activision ever having to go the route General Motors did and crawl on their knees to the government for a bailout, lol. And yeah, balance? Just another word for dictate to the consumer what they want. Time for a new hobby.

The new video on the site giving details of the new multiplayer mode Squad Rush, it looks good I just hope they don't use the same kind of voting system on public servers (I use that term loosely) as they do on L4D as they are the biggest bunch of elitists I've ever had the unfortunate pleasure to play alongside/against, kicked for absolutely no reason whatsoever sometimes.

Interestingly enough

PC dedicated servers have file access locked aside from 3 config files: the main server ini (Not alot of settings there), the mapcycle file (Only one map in the beta though) and the slot reservation config.

Right now, for the beta, the slot amount is limited to 32, although we just found a way to crank it up. We'll do some tests on this in the following days.

am quite saddened to hear about the lack of pbbans streaming support for BC2. The =SM= clan was an old BF2 clan, who finally closed up our servers because of the cheats and namehacking. We would probably left much sooner if it wasn't for the streaming.

By locking the server files down, it appears Dice are trying the time-honoured fail of security through obscurity.

From a hack site :P

It seems they are using a similar engine to the BF2/2142 Engine. They have ClPlayer, and ClPlayerManager

You also have things like clientSoliderEntity->Weapon/Kit. From there there is a structure which I have not reversed yet.

Guess that explains the BF2 like movement. Frostbite is based off the BF2 engine.

I predicted before the beta came out that it would be released on Thursday and hacks would be released by the weekend.

Another one has these notes:

This hack includes following features:

* Nametags

* Healthbars

* Removes nametags/healthbars distance check

* Icons on the 3D map

* Minimap icons

Had to bring it up for the people who think keeping all the server files private would stop the hacks.

The only thing keeping server files private did was piss off the pbbans community.
