Oubadah Posted January 7, 2014 Share Posted January 7, 2014 To answer my own question, the appdata pb files seems to be built from the files in the game directory pb folder.I deleted the appdata folder and then extracted the pbbans files into the game directory. BHCMax Posted January 9, 2014 Share Posted January 9, 2014 I installed a cod4 server the other day, was wondering why the pb update tool didn't work lol, I had to manually upload pb files from a working server, now I know why.. hope this isn't going to be the end of cod4, I know activision have had it in for us pc gamers since mw2. I tried to download files mentioned here, put them to pb folder in cod4 install folder, replaced some of them, deleted pb folder in appdata but no use, it keeps kicking me. What should I do now? I did the same thing as last time & put it in my game file but PB updates itself & restores to the non supportive version. I do not know what I am doing wrong or if this file is out of date, HELP. I couldn't get the drop down in pb update for cod4 either. The Instructions given through google seraches and forums are confusing. I simply put the legacy files on one half the screen....and the actual cod4 pb file on the other half the screen. I then deleted the idividual cod files, in the pb folder of cod4, one at a time. Then dragged and dropped the legacy file that matched into the pb file for cod4. After that there were files still remaining in the legacy files...so I dragged and dropped them in the cod4 pb file. Started the game and was able to sit idle for a long time without issue from punk buster. If this helps ...great. My thoughts about the whole thing is this: Why cant punk buster leave cod4 in the drop down? When players need to install pb using pb update... they would only recieve the files that were last updated before evenbalance stopped updating. That is the simplest thing in my eyes view. However there also may be other reasons for Evenbalance not having cod in ther at all. This may be because EA approached Evenbalance to have P.B. in BF4? Maybe EA said we will use Punk Buster...But you have to remove anything cod related...I Don't know...just a theory. Sort of a way to garuntee cod gets the least amount of attention? Who Knows. I am now a Clan Leader of a successful Clan and have never installed PunkBuster on any of them. PunkBuster is unnecessary if you Admin your servers on a regular basis and lets face it, if you are running a server for the benefit of the players, you should be. PunkBuster has so many shortcomings that any benefits of using it or outweighed by the problems. I find it hard to believe that serious CoD4 players think that PunkBuster is somehow essential, as some contributors to this thread have said: "with NO anti cheat its game over....... hope this isn't going to be the end of cod4" In common with many Clans who run successful Call of Duty 4 servers without PunkBuster, I see no sign of the popularity of this game decreasing.
