We have had our dedicated box running 3-4 Far Cry 2 game servers for several months now and its time to make a hard press to get them streaming and punkbuster running smoothly.
Our goals are to get Md5 checks running and cvar checking.
One of the problems we are going to have to overcome is the game port changing when the game is restarted.
While the port is stable as long as our game is running, it is not uncommon to have to restart the server every day or two do to the Ubisoft servers going offline.
A quick survey of 15 running games, shows them running on a port between 9002 and 9088. Out of that 9088 seems to be and an anomaly. The other 14 games are 9023 or less with 11 being 9009 or less.
To my knowledge, which I openly confess is limited at best, there is no method to select the port for Far Cry 2.
Base on observation it seems to want to start at 9002 and start working its way up.
ATM our server 206.123.95.90 is attempting to steam a Far Cry 2 game on port 9011.
Hopefully you will be able to detect it soon and we can move forward.
I can see two solutions to the port changing problem.
The first and which would be the best for us, is to assigned a block of ports to stream on from 9000-9030.
Since the IP address belongs to our box there isn't a problem getting someones else's game server.
The second which would be better than nothing, is to just be able to login and update our port on pbbans whenever it changes.
