The problem is that IW/Activision are trying out a brand new way of making pc gaming a level playing field by using steam/IWnet and that will include a fee of some sort I guess....

The communities that will really feel the effects are the map/modding communities and probably the competitive gaming scene as well.

I think a fee is more or less guaranteed in my opinion, I mean they could quite easily sell the game for £10/$10 and then continue pushing DLC onto us every few months, or even worse, charge a monthly/yearly fee.

I do agree with the effects on the map/modding community, have they forgotten Counter-Strike so soon? Started out as a mod and now look how big that's become.

They haven't released any information yet regarding this 'new direction' we're all headed so we shall see.

Personally, I'm a PC gamer and have been for many years, I'd like to keep it that way, preferably with dedicated servers and mod tools :D

Canceled the pre-ordered server and my copies of the game. Really a sad state of affairs these days with these games. I will stick with the old tried and true games.

I got four other people to cancel their orders too. Looks like IW will be losing a lot of money for this game on the PC side.

Just think:

$60.00 x let's say 10,000 copies = $600,000.00

That is a large chunk of change to just disappear and I am sure when the sales data comes in within the first quarter, they will rethink their stance and fire their marketing team. LOL

From what I read on IW forums, $120k was lost in preorders on Amazon alone.

Reading this will cause me to do three things. First off, cancel my pre-ordered server. I have not pre-ordered the game because I have 24hr stores here that sell them, and am usually up at that hour, so I planned to just head on over and beat the rush. I won't be doing so, now. Secondly, Post my sig in the IW petition. Third? Head over to my own clan-site, tell everyone to cancel their pre-orders, and explain this, with the above links, and then look towards either continuing with COD4 for as long as it lasts(see it hitting a re-prise in popularity) and perhaps adding a game from another company altogether.

What a huge disappointment for the COD-series fans, as if COD3 and W@W weren't enough!!!!

Perhaps 402's nic should be put into perspective..... 420......go smoke another bag, don't think you've lost enough of your senses yet....f..kin moron!

I´ve thought about buying MW2, but since today i´m totally focused on BF:BC2. DICE may fail sometimes, but they never would try something like that. What i´ve heard from several COD players was before today that they really liked the COD series and still all wanted to buy MW2, but now nearly noone except of a few want to buy it.

In my opinion VAC isn´t that bad, but i don´t like it for myself.

It would be fun to see the Activision stock fall a little as a reaction to this announcement, but I doubt that will happen.

Honestly game devs are going nuts these days.
Even Blizzard has announced Starcraft 2 would not have a LAN feature  a couple of months (or is it years yet) ago.

(Well, they are the same company afterall.)

Seems all threads regarding dedicated server were deleted from IW forums :P, but people are making new one's.

Seems someone is going to have allot of "deleting" on their hands if they want to hide error they have made :P

What a sad state of affairs this is. The game makers are slowly trying to groom PC gamers into accepting sub standard console features, just to save a little money on developing a polished PC version of a game... a version which would sell more copies and give them a better return on their development costs.

This game will fail on the PC.. and fail hard. IW/Activision is going to learn a harsh lesson from PC gamers this time around.

I haven't pre-ordered it, so unfortunately I can't show my disgust towards Infinity Ward by cancelling my order. I have signed the petition though.
