I won't be buying it for sure now. If I wnated to play a console game, I'd buy a damn console.

New link for bashandslash is here

http://bashandslash.com/index.php?option=c...&Itemid=111

I edited the bash and slash recording and here is the part where the IW community manager 402 broke the news:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/jmtt5lzmw0z/402_MW2_PC.rar

Runs about 49 minutes and the news was dropped within the first 10 minutes.

Quote

* We're doing a lot on the backend to make the game accessible for everyone.
* There is no delay for the PC version of MW2
* There's prestige mode
* Jason West at the MP event, said that he was dead on, on the matchmaking servers. We've been building a system on the backend called IW.NET.
* You are completely reliant on IW.NET. There are no server lists. There are no dedicated servers.
* You have private matches where you can customize the game
* You cannot put MW2 on a dedicated server.
* This is the first time we've ever done something like this and the team has huge plans for what IW.NET develops into.
* Customizing your game...you have quite a few options in a private match
* You're getting same game (as in Console), plus matchmaking and private match.
* Server admin point-of view, NO DEDICATED SERVERS
* Anti-Cheat will be VAC, no PunkBuster

What's the possibility of someone creating the files for a dedicated server?

Am I the only one who sees a conspiracy theory behind all this?

It's plain obvious they just want to get rid of the pc side of their games altogether and get everyone to move onto consoles, where the piracy is less and they can charge us for every download, just because they are money grabbing bastards.

tbh with you, it would have saved their rep had they told us it would not come out for pc, rather than doing this half assed effort to give us a game.

I think they underestimate the amount of backlash this will cause amongst the PC community. We were stung with OpFlash 2, and now we are getting screwed over again with MW2.

x2

I am watching the OFDR forums in the 'hope' that they change their minds on anti-cheat, cd keys and dedicated servers.

Their is a petition on the IW forums for people to sign, last time I checked it was 49 pages within a short time.

I do agree with FatalityUK, talk about kicking PC gamers in the *****

This is utterly ridiculous... :(

VAC, seriously? That anti-cheat is complete shit if you will forgive my expletive for a moment. I love how they waited until three weeks prior to launch to announce this as well.

I may still purchase the game. But only if you can play against console kids, so I can properly pwn them with my mouse and keyboard B)

But, I'll likely not buy it, as it will be full to the kilt with haxors.

A lot of birds come home to roost imo, and have all contributed to the present demise.
piracy:
COD4 forces a pbguid relax setting of 7 on server admins instead of 0 after every map resart, and can only be kept at 0 by proactive admins setting a pb task, its an issue that was raised right from the start, and is still ongoing.
It makes it so easy for someone who downloaded the game and uses a keygen to find servers to play on.
IW/Activision and to a certain extent EB have hardly been proactive in combating the issue of cracked servers.
So I was surprised at Fourzerotwo expressing surprise at the amount of piracy that is prevalent at the moment.
For someone who supposedly has his ear to the ground re issues such as this, it should have come as no surprise at all.

anticheat:
I can only assume that the better package that fits in with the IW/Activision future plans is VAC, because PB is by far the better anticheat option.
All the PB whiners are in for a real treat when they get a taste of VAC in action.
Then again, the ease with which cheats can bypass PB software is disturbing, and without the support of private anti cheat sites would be a lot worse.
A 2 minute kick for raising a cheat violation hardly shows confidence in your own software detection techniques, and I have always been a firm believer that PB should be the ones to issue permanent bans for cheat detections made by their own software.
Innovative detection methods are required and the punishment should fit the crime.
PB or VAC, VAC or PB ... those are the viable options for game devs when deciding on an anti cheat solution, and the steam/IWnet factor must have made it a no brainer decision.

profits:
Any commercial enterprise is interested in one thing only ... the profit margin.
A company selling a product will not set a fair price, they will set a price that their market analysts believe the market will bear.
Based on the resounding success of COD4 they must think that joe public will pay a hefty price tag for its successor.
If they think that punters will pay to play on servers provided by IWnet and they can make even more profit from that avenue, then thats what they will do.

conclusion:
You never know, this may be hailed in a couple of months time as the way forward for pc gaming.
The only thing that will make IW/Activision rethink their marketing strategy is if MW2 fails to sell as well as their marketing analysts think it will, and more importantly if IWnet fails to deliver.
The pc gamers that read these forums are but a tiny percentage of the potential MW2 customer base and I believe that despite all the hullaballoo that is raised by the various pc gaming communities, MW2 will still sell well.
This will, in their eyes, vindicate their decision to effectively ostracise the pc gaming communities from MW2 (especially the competitive side of things) and they will continue to ride roughshod over everyone as long as the money keeps rolling in.
Do not let any game developer tell you that they care about the end user and what they think, the lot of them are in it for one thing only and thats ca$h.
And yes, I am a cyncic. :P

Good post Fozzer!

Just out of curiosity, if PC gaming is now taking the VAC route does that mean PB will eventually be no more or incorporated into VAC? (if that's possible).

I think they know that this would be a sale killer and that is why they didn't announce this at the get go and are were counting on a boat load of pre sales and thinking people wouldn't cancel orders.

pc gaming is not taking the VAC route Bro.
Some games use VAC and some use PB.
The problem is that IW/Activision are trying out a brand new way of making pc gaming a level playing field by using steam/IWnet and that will include a fee of some sort I guess, not looked too deeply into it because I have cancelled my preorder :) VAC was probably the easier option for them, thats all.
For all their sanctimonious blurb, my personal opinion is that IW/Activision have been working on a way to get even more cash out of gamers pockets and the end result is IWnet.
The communities that will really feel the effects are the map/modding communities and probably the competitive gaming scene as well.
I hate forcasting the future, but all I see at the moment is a game developer trying to milk the cash cow for all she's worth.
I hope I'm proved wrong :)

If the IWNet / Steam / VAC system works out then I don't see PB being used in future IW games. Most likely VAC is included with IW's contract with Steam or is much cheaper than PB.

I doubt PB will ever incorporate into VAC plus PB would be an extra cost. EB will just need to find other companies to do business with.

i'm sure they feel the majority of PC gamers really want a more console like experience

fourzerotwo kept saying how it was the same game and the game didn't change

Yea, like a broken record.
Most of us will complete the SP game in a couple of hours, we buy for the MP side of things, and all what we have known thus far re MP gaming has been thrown out the window.
The one positive thing (yes, I am trying) is that it may be better and fairer than the present dedi server system we know and love.
I guess time will tell, but unless I see exactly what I'm buying into, my cash stays in my pocket <_<
