I'd like PB for the familiarity of admining it, but as MaydaX says, for me that is not a deal breaker.

i remember when i thought PB was a big PITA, CoD games were highly overrated and couldn't understand the desire to peruse thousands of PBSS ...
i mean no GUI or simple chat text admin control? ludicrous

now i still hit F2 ....

A few of you have missed this item of news floating around the community at the moment, so I thought I would draw attention to it:

A German internet article claims that at Gamescom JD categorically ruled out a tie-in with Steam:

http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://blog.codinfobase.de/2010/08/gamescom-call-of-duty-black-ops-das-vorlaufige-fazit/&ei=MohzTL7SIIqQjAeWlOCxDw&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBgQ7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://blog.codinfobase.de/2010/08/gamescom-call-of-duty-black-ops-das-vorlaufige-fazit/%26hl%3Den

The piece which concerns us the most is this:

There will be, and Josh was quite quick on this Answer, NO forced Steam. However, there will be a Steam Version, but thats more of a completion thing.

EDIT: Translation by Monochrom

Basically, the gist of it is this: Black Ops is not tied in with Steam, but will be available on Steam just like COD:WaW was.

This means:

1. No VAC
2. A good chance there will be public server files
3. A chance there will be no charge for PC DLC unless Black Ops is going to use Game for Windows Live to sell it.

Of course, all this needs confirmation from JD here, but it is looking very good for Black Ops at the moment. I've made a pre-order on this basis. Just hope I don't get let down.

I can live with paid DLC, especially as it will now have to stand up against community made mods and add-ons after the announcement of mod tools.

Paid DLC is fine as long as patches aren't lumped in with the maps and such. People shouldn't be expected to pay for game fixes.

I don't mind DLC at all as long as it adds a decent enough amount of content to the game to justify it's price. Take the new ArmA2 DLC for example - an entirely new playable faction, new vehicles, weapons etc, for a reasonable price. And the clincher? All the engine updates that are released with the DLC will be made available to everyone via a patch, regardless of whether they purchase. That's how to do DLC :)

Valve knows how to do DLC, they've added on a campaign "The Passing" and an uncommon common infected with their last DLC, and are going to be adding in another campaign "The sacrifice" and the old L4D 1 campaign "No Mercy" to L4D 2. No cost to PC players!

I do wish however that it had PB, because we run a L4D 2 server and have come across aimbotters believe it or not

It sounds so simple. Hopefully they will just do it this time around.

@THErealRUDEDOG I guess it's time to sit tight and hope the MPReveal is truly a reveal ALL aspects of Multiplayer. Less than 12 hours!

then i will make a decision as to think about buying or not

Nothing of substance, but a few early details.

Hopefully the image will be able to be read.

that was not encouraging

if it ends up being a fiasco like L4D where you payed for a server but had no control over it.....

nothing more annoying than being vote-kicked off your own server....

sounds very console oriented. i realize it will be a port from a console game, but, damn.

i foresee lots of "oh, we will have that shortly" like when cod:waw came out....

i hope i am wrong

Ouch that read was not very encouraging at all. On a side note, you need SourceBans for your l4d server then. Admin lists/ ban lists and immunity levels across all your servers

C'mon guys. :) Lets not worry to much about that. Just a blurb from a magazine.

The meat and potatoes are due out in a little while. Gimme my admin tools, and a battle recorder, and I'll be a happy camper.

not when the game first dropped

you had no control other than starting/stopping the server, for the most part

hell finding and getting in your own server was a PITA to begin with

*edit*

and no matter what the announce, i will wait and see what actually drops
