stop it!

i am making do with a HD5770 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125309

Buy one, buy one now!!

I replaced a 6950 xfire setup with a 7970 and let me tell you it is MUCH faster and MUCH smoother. Not to mention running MUCH cooler, and using MUCH less energy and using about 3 Watt when the pc is idle.

I can also get a whopping 325Mhz overclock from the core, stock is 925 and it will go up to 1250, but i run 1200 stock 24/7. Memory produces similar results. Its a beast.

The best part was i got it on offer from ocuk for £299 (which works out to about 470ish dollars?) plus four free games. The games were kinda crappy Deux Ex, two copies of dirt showdown and Nexuiz or something but its better than a knee in the groin and ive had a few of those.

A little bit of eye candy

I ended up swapping my 7970 out for a GTX680 - I found the driver situation even 6 months after release to be less than stellar. I have heard that this has improved a lot since release though. There may be hope for the 7970 sat boxed up on my desk yet :P

There was huge gains in the past months for the 7xxx series of cards, making the 7970 the fastest card when overclocked now.

Only had the card a month though so can't verify what early 7xxx drivers were like.

Duality, fancy giving your spare 7970 card to me? :D

Sapphire gives its new flagship graphics card 6 GB of very fast memory, compared to the mere 3 GB on AMD's reference card. Does this give Sapphire's Toxic HD 7970 GHz Edition a real-world speed boost? We connect it to an epic six-screen array to find out.

Sapphire’s new flagship graphics card, the Toxic HD 7970 GHz Edition 6 GB, has two times as much GDDR5 memory as AMD's reference Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition board. The company employs the same GPU discussed in AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition Review: Give Me Back That Crown!, allowing its own Lethal Boost technology (essentially automatic overclocking) to take the chip up to 1200 MHz and the memory to 1600 MHz when thermal headroom allows. The combination of a faster clock rates and extra memory should yield a nice performance boost for the folks who know how to capitalize.
